At this time of year there is nothing better than snuggling up in a space which feels cosy. And the truth is, the rooms we enjoy most are rarely the biggest — they are the ones that work. A living space that holds everything neatly, frames the television properly and gives you somewhere to pour a drink for friends is a room you will actually live in. That is where fitted furniture comes in.

Media units that frame the room

A media unit is the best way to store and display televisions, games consoles and personal sound systems — but a made-to-measure one does far more than a stand. It hides the cables, gives every box and controller a home, and turns the television wall into the focal point the room deserves. On a recent commission we built a media area around an Evonic electric fire, with mirrored open shelving and lighting throughout, so the wall glows softly even when the television is off. Another client’s entertainment room brought together a pool table, projector screen and integrated sound system — all designed around the way the family actually gathers.

Home bars that get used

A home bar is the same idea applied to entertaining. Built into an alcove, under the stairs or along a dining room wall, it keeps bottles, glassware and everything else together and out of sight — which is exactly why it gets used. Our favourite touch is lighting: an illuminated geometric ceiling panel above the bar, as we designed for one Sale commission, turns a corner of the room into a genuine feature.

Storage you do not notice

The quietest part of fitted furniture is the part you notice least: storage. Bookshelves and sideboards built to the wall, media storage sized to your equipment, and displays that hold the things you love without cluttering the room. Because every piece is made to measure in our own Altrincham factory, nothing is wasted and nothing is forced to fit.
