A Very Special Kitchen Makeover

When our owners, Alison and Mike Reuben, wanted to update their kitchen, our talented team jumped at the chance to help. Designing for your own directors is a particular kind of test — there is nowhere to hide and no one to blame — and it turned into one of our favourite projects.

The brief

Alison and Mike wanted a contemporary kitchen that still felt warm and comfortable — a light, airy space, and lots of kitchen gadgets for Mike, the main chef in the house. The starting point was the same as for every client: the room itself. The kitchen opens into the snug, so the design had to work as one flowing space rather than two separate rooms.

Two-tone, made to measure

The finished kitchen centres on stunning two-tone cupboards in a space-saving tambour unit style, a self-cleaning oven, a wine fridge and hidden waste disposal, with a stunning central island in Carrara Quartz. A Quooker tap gives boiling, still and sparkling water all in one — something the whole team can vouch for from daily use. From kitchen to snug

Beyond the kitchen, the makeover flowed into the snug: a sofa supplied by Lana Filippova Interiors, a fireplace under the television, and lots of built-in storage — the kind of fitted furniture that quietly keeps a family room calm. The wall panelling and built-in cabinetry tie the two spaces together, so the whole ground floor reads as one designed room.

What the makeover proved

Doing the makeover in our own home reminded us of everything our clients experience: the excitement of the 3D renders, the small decisions that matter more than you expect, and the moment the fitters leave and the room finally looks the way it was designed to. It also proved, for the hundredth time, why we build everything ourselves in our Altrincham factory — because the people making your furniture are the same people responsible for it.
